The University of Southern California Office of International Services (OIS) seeks an International Student Advisor I to work with our F-1 international student population. The ideal candidate will have prior work experience in the field of international education, strong verbal and written communication skills, cultural sensitivity, and an interest in cross-cultural and intercultural communication.
OIS supports international students and scholars as they strive to achieve their educational, professional, and personal objectives. OIS is a resource center that provides advising, information, and opportunities for involvement to help members of the USC international community make the most of their USC experience. Recognizing the many benefits of international educational exchange, OIS advocates for these benefits on campus, locally, and nationally.
Summary of Major Responsibilities:
Coordinate the delivery of front-line customer service and intake advising for the department: including in-person, by phone, by email, and via video calls
Advise students concerning U.S. immigration regulations and USC policy; resolve routine and complex issues.
Perform primary functions of a Designated School Official (DSO) in the Student & Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS)
Review and process necessary applications for students required by U.S. government agencies
Prepare official documents and letters for students related to employment, travel, and enrollment
Collect and report data and process compliance tasks in SEVIS
Provide guidance and leadership to student employees; set expectations, train new staff, and model exemplary customer service
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field
Foreign language skills
International Experience
The hourly rate for this position ranges from $27.16 to $30.82. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

- The primary function of this position is to perform the duties of a Designated School Official (DSO) in the Student & Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). A DSO must be either a citizen or a lawful permanent resident of the United States.
Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education Minimum Experience: 1 year Minimum Field of Expertise: Knowledge of federal immigration and other regulations pertaining to international students and scholars. Experience in an office environment. Demonstrated English writing skills and computer literacy.
