The Department of Sociology combines scientific research and teaching at the University of Vienna. The Department of Sociology, a subunit of the Faculty of Social Sciences, is influenced by the historical traces of the Viennese Sociology, which is dedicated to the understanding of social problems, empirical research and sociological theory. The Department announces a vacant prae-doc position within the field of family sociology.
The contract duration is 4 years with a preliminary limitation of 1,5 years and will automatically be extended to 4 years unless the employer hands in a non-extension declaration after 12 months.

Job Description:
Participation in research, teaching and administration:
- Participation in research projects / research studies
- Participation in publications / academic articles / presentations
- We expect the successful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months.
- Participation in teaching and independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
- Supervision of students
- Involvement in the organisation of meetings, conferences, symposiums
- Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration
Profile:
- Completed Master's degree or Diploma in Sociology or a closely related subject
- Professional competence in family sociology; knowledge in childhood or youth sociology is of advantage
- Sound methodical competence; knowledge in qualitative methods is of advantage
- Ability to successfully plan, conduct, and write up research
- Didactic competence and motivation to contribute to innovative university teaching
- Excellent organizational skills, high reliability, and the ability to work both independently and in a team
- Excellent English language skills (written and oral); very good proficiency in German is of advantage
- IT user skills
Desirable qualifications are
- Teaching experience / experience of working with e-learning
- Knowledge of university processes and structures
