Project Support Officer [New Zealand]

About Us

The Waipā District, with key locations of Cambridge and Te Awamutu, is growing rapidly. Our Council has a strong vision to cater to this growth, creating and supporting vibrant, thriving communities, while also nurturing and celebrating Waipā's unique culture and heritage. A key part of this vision is our Community Services business unit, which is responsible for community facilities, parks and reserves, cemeteries, playgrounds, libraries, museums and heritage - a 71-strong team of energetic and dedicated individuals with enormous passion for what they do. With the establishment of our new museum and discovery centre Te Ara Wai on the horizon, alongside upcoming skate park and playground projects, we have very exciting times ahead of us.

About The Role

We are looking for someone to take on the newly-created role of Project Support Officer. The Project Support Officer is a junior to intermediate-level project management role working with Community Services functions and projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Responding to internal and external customer requests relating to Community Services projects;
  • Project initiation and planning for all projects, and delivery of small operational maintenance projects;
  • Supporting Community Services' Annual Plan and Long Term Plan processes, including preparation of reports and documents; and
  • Holding key relationships with Council's Project Delivery staff, to support the implementation of Community Services' capital works programme (large projects e.g. new playgrounds, community facilities).

About You

The successful candidate will have a relevant qualification and/or experience with project management work, plus strong communication, report writing and interpersonal skills. Experience with the preparation of project management documentation and/or procurement processes would also be very useful. Experience in the parks and recreation industry and in local government are also highly desirable, although not essential. Positivity, enthusiasm and a desire to learn will be key.

In return, we offer a fun and friendly environment where you'll work alongside an energetic, motivated team of professionals. Your work will be highly valued by a supportive and caring team leader. We support our staff to develop and upskill, and provide generous leave entitlements and great benefits.
