This Job requires POST certification; Peace Officer Standards Training in Utah.

Principal Duties:

  • Assist in overseeing all park operations, including managing the park team, developing and executing the park budget.
  • improving park operations.
  • improving visitor experiences by engaging with park visitors.
  • Assist in developing a concession operation.
  • Developing community relationships with local officials and leaders to promote the park.
  • Proactively seek ways to increase park attendance through innovative outreach efforts.
  • Educating visitors about park rules and regulations.
  • Enforcing these rules and laws to protect park resources and improving the safety of all visitors.

  • We are seeking a highly motivated individual who has a strong background in park management and community engagement, and who can think creatively about how to improve park operations while maintaining a focus on customer service and safety.

Example of Duties

  • Manages or assists with the management of a state park, heritage park, museum, recreation areas and/or waterways and park programs.
  • Oversees parks, boating and off-highway program elements and/or manages resources.
  • Patrols waterways, trails, parks, etc., to enforce applicable State of Utah Laws, rules and regulations.
  • Supervises or assists with the supervision of subordinate personnel including: hiring, determining workload and delegating assignments, training, monitoring and evaluating performance, and initiating corrective or disciplinary actions.
  • Manages or assists with accounting or budget activities.
  • Provides assistance and interacts with local governmental agencies, private groups/organizations and the public regarding applicable laws and rules and partnerships.
  • Hosts visitors and provides visitor services.
  • Maintains and repairs park facilities and grounds; maintains and operates tools and equipment.

Supplemental Information

  • Employees are subject to personal risk and safety; perform duties that consist of preventing or detecting crime and enforcing criminal statutes or ordinances of this state or any of its political subdivisions.
  • Employees in this job work for the Department of Natural Resources, and they must be certified through the Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) Academy.
  • Employees must qualify as a "Law Enforcement Officer" in accordance with U.C.A. 53-13-103.
  • Job requires POST certification; Peace Officer Standards Training in Utah.
  • Perform duties that consist of providing community protection; and respond to situations involving threats to public safety and make emergency decisions affecting the lives and health of others.
  • Risks found in potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situations, e.g. working in extreme outdoor weather conditions, working in remote wilderness areas and/or boating/OHV areas, etc.
  • valid driver license required to drive a motor vehicle on a highway in this state per UCA53-3-202(1)(a).
  • Work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking over rough terrain or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities.
