Job Description

To ensure that SGS Safety System is maintained, medicals and inductions are up to date according to SGS and client requirements and a safe work environment at Durban Commercial Laboratory. To uphold an acceptable safety standard, including the documentation system, according to South African OHS Act.

Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system and our those on the client’s sites.  Compliance with relevant standards / methods including all applicable legislation, customer and client requirements  Adhere to Safety, Health, Environment and Quality policies and procedures.  Ensure all safety data is collected, recorded and presented monthly for the SHE meetings held at Durban Commercial laboratory and Month end report for OI  Co-ordinate SHE Representative functions (input/outputs and awareness programs).  Identify health, safety and environment training needs.  Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by direct line manager.  To keep record of all medicals, pre-employment, annual and exit and report to OI on a six-monthly basis  To ensure all Inspections and Maintenance gets done and recorded for work areas, sampling points, vehicles and the building/premises.  Keep Contractor’s Files up to date and according customer requirements  Ensure safety talks, training and Toolbox talks are done and recorded  Ensure all displays are kept current and updated – informative, emergency, safety signage  PPE needs analysis, Issue of PPE, Inspections and training for PPE usage  Emergency data to be updated and evacuation drills are done according schedule  Environmental management regarding waste and waste disposal  Incidents - Investigation, recording and reporting, compiling OI requirements  Ensure compliance with all applicable legal legislation.  Compliance with all relevant Health & Safety requirements as follows:  Legal Appointments in place and up to date;  PPE requirements;  Validity of Medical Surveillance Examinations;  General Induction Training requirements e.g. KBC Induction and Internal Induction Training;  Keep printed and electronic files and data neat and accessible, inspections, surveys etc  Carry out risk assessments in conjunction with employees and managers working in the areas assessed.  Inspections of work areas for safety compliance, day and night spot checks Uncontrolled document without signatures PF-(RZA)-[GEN]HR-031 02/21  Compilation of safety statistics for the operation -trending Near Misses, accidents and incidents.  Conduct or assist in accident/incident investigations.  Complete vehicle accident claim forms.  Ensuring maintenance and corrective action request register and ensure timeous and effective action and close-out of all corrective action reports.  Promote the interest and welfare and maintain the goodwill of each of the departments within the Operation.  Work towards a positive safety culture and ensuring the buy-in of employees

Qualifications

Grade 12  SAMTRAC or equivalent experience  Knowledge of hygiene practices an advantage  Client service experience and knowledge  Computer literate with Word, Excel, Power Point  English and Afrikaans literate

Additional Information

Supervisory Knowledge and Experience  Good knowledge of general safety and hygiene practices.  Good knowledge of facility layout and chemicals/gas used in industry  Risk Assessment and Hazard Identification  Task focused.  Driver’s license  Able to work under pressure  Leadership – live out the company values consistently & continuously  Customer and Relationship – Build effective working relationship with managers, peers, team members, customers and suppliers  Good Interpersonal & communication Skills
